In 2013, Marxist Senator Marco Rubio was part of the Gang of Eight, along with Senators Jeff Flake, John McCain, Bob Menendez, Lindsey Graham, Dick Durbin, and Chuck Schumer. What a group. The purpose of the Gang of Eight was to push a bill for amnesty, allow for illegal voting, and to strengthen their human trafficking infrastructure. Unfortunately for them there was one person standing in the way: Ted Cruz.
In short, Cruz wanted to amend the bill to allow for border construction before granting illegals amnesty, and to prohibit non-citizens from voting. Ironically these amendments were used against him in the 2016 campaign as being for amnesty, when in reality he knew they would be rejected, thereby killing the bill. This exercise proved the Democrats are dead set against the wall or any security measures, providing a template for future strategy.
In early 2018, President Trump offered amnesty to Democrats for the wall, and even continued his offer as they publicly rejected him. While conservatives had panic attacks over fear of the President caving, he knew the entire time the Democrats wouldn’t take it. In the end, the deal was killed and President Trump walked away being able to say he tried for amnesty, giving him ammunition against the Democrats in 2020.
The current government shutdown has lasted about a month, and the heat is starting to simmer. The President, once again, is putting amnesty on the table knowing full well they won’t bite. If they bite, they give into the President's wall security demands. With government jobs on the line and funding affected, some Democrats are starting to break. The amnesty offer will only increase the pressure.
If you’re an illegal here in the United States constantly looking over your shoulder, and you may have a chance to receive a path to citizenship, and you see the Democrats not once, but twice reject generous offers by President Trump in exchange for a little security – security from the place you escaped -- you may not be so inclined to do the Democrats’ bidding this upcoming cycle.
Don’t worry about President Trump caving. He hasn’t given an inch on anything. He knows he's safe with the amnesty offer, and as expected, the Democrats already rejected it.
